Many thought the Tulaire simply possessed some deeper understanding of the Talent that allowed them to naturally overcome the potential dangers of wild magic, however some of the eldest Ulath sages know this is not true. Young Tulaire were watched closely, and if they displayed any signs of the Talent, they were taken to the channellers of the city and attuned to a Serenity Stone immediately. Monitoring of their talents began that day until their certification as adepts, and training in the measures of control began immediately. Had the Faelun employed such measures, their great channeling might simply have destroyed the Tulaire, instead of bringing about the Fire.
Today, the talents of the Adepts remain lost to most wilders; if such measures were rediscovered, wilders might find more acceptance. However, none know the process of making and attuning Serenity Stones; it was lost with the Empire. Perhaps it will someday reappear, and wilders will find acceptance again as Adepts. The Channeller Adepts of the Tulaire Empire understood that some sacrifices had to be made to learn control of the Talent. By slowing their acquisition of more powerful magic, they learned to control what spells they could cast better.
Hit Die Type: d4
Requirements
To qualify to become a Channeller Adept, a character must fulfill all the following criteria.
SP Safety Limit: 3rd level spells
Knowledge (Arcana): 5 ranks
Concentration: 5 ranks
Spellcraft: 5 ranks
Special: The character must locate and attune himself to a Serenity Stone.
Class Skills
The channeller adept’s class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Concentration (Con), Knowledge (arcana) (Int), Profession (Wis), and Spellcraft (Int). See Chapter 4: Skills for skill description details.
Skill Points at Each Level: 2 + Int modifier.
Class Features: All of the following are class features of the channeller adept prestige class.
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Channeller adepts gain no proficiency in any weapon or armor. Armour of any type interferes with their movements, which can cause her spells to fail (if those spells have somatic components). Note that armor check penalties for armor heavier than leather apply to the skills Balance, Climb, Escape Artist, Hide, Jump, Move Silently, Pick Pocket, and Tumble. Also, Swim checks suffer a –1 penalty for every 5 pounds of armor and equipment carried.
Spells: Channeller adepts cast spells as a wilder, and continue to grow in their understanding of magic, however at a slightly slower rate. Thus, when a new channeller adept level is gained, the character gains spells points as if he had also gained a level in the wilder class. Every three levels beginning at 2nd (2nd, 5th, 8th), his spell safety limit increases by two. Levels of Channeller Adept do stack with levels of wilder for determining Slow Aging, however, a channeller adept does not gain any other benefit a character of the wilder class would have gained (metamagic or special feats, increases in otherworldly awakening advances).
Reduced Wild Surge: Channeller Adepts learn to better control the wild nature of the Essence, becoming increasingly more adept at handling the devastating energies of their spell effects. Beginning at first level, the Wisdom Check DC for casting a spell effect is reduced by 1. This increase to -2 at 4th level, -3 at 7th level, and -4 at 10th level.
